The Classification Reviewer independently reviews the AI System Assessor’s classification determination before the CDR is approved by the AI Governance Lead. The Reviewer is an experienced compliance or risk professional, functionally independent from both the development team and the Assessor. The review assesses the classification’s defensibility: would the determination withstand scrutiny by a competent authority?

Disagreements between the Assessor and the Reviewer are escalated to the AI Governance Lead for binding determination. The complete documentation of positions, analysis, and resolution is retained in the CDR. This independent review mechanism prevents classification errors from propagating through the entire AISDP process.

For small organisations, the Classification Reviewer may double as the holistic AISDP reviewer. For medium and large organisations, a dedicated Reviewer (or team of Reviewers) provides consistent classification standards across the portfolio.
